Hitchhikers Freytag Triangle

Freytags triangle is something that most stories follow. You have the introduction of the characters and so forth, then the rising action, the climax, the falling action and the resolution.
In hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy the introduction reveals most of the characters at Arthur's house. The rising action of the book is at the point when Ford Prefect tells Arthur that the world is going to be destroyed in a matter of minutes. The rising action continues when the Vogons arrive and tell all the humans that they will be destroying the Earth, which they do. Completing the rising action is when Ford and Arthur and thrown into space and they only have 30 seconds of life left, but in the nick of time, President Zaphod Beeblebrox's spaceship zooms by and picks are two main characters up. Now the climax Trillian or (Trisha) gets held as a hostage. Arthur, Ford and Beeblebrox are there to rescue our damsel in distress and that is our falling action. The resolution of this story is like that of most great books, a happy ending, Courtney will like that, Earth is replaced and put back together just as it was before it was destroyed and Arthur Dent gets his house back and. The bad guys are punished by getting shot by Marvin's point of view gun which made Vogons sad and depressed little people that lost the battle.

Conflict in Hitchhikers

I have come across a couple of conflicts while reading Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
  1. Man v Society- Arthur v The City. At the beginning of the book Arthur is in his home when some people pull up in bulldozers. When Arthur goes to check it out, He then learns that it is the city wanting to tear down his home so that they can build a bypass were his home is currently located. Of course Arthur wants nothing to do with that, so he rebels and lays in front of the bulldozers and tells the men that he will not move.
  2. Man v Man- Arthur v Ford. Ford needs to talk to Arthur and alert him what will happen in a few minutes, while Arthur is trying to protect his home. Arthur has to decided should he protect the place he lives or talk to his friend. Finally Ford tells one of the bulldozer drivers to lay in front of the bulldozer, while Arthur and Ford go talk.
  3. Man v self- Arthur v Arthur- Arthur has to choose to follow Ford or stay in front of the bulldozer and protect his home. Arthur decides to go with Ford and good thing he does because going with Ford saves Arthur's life and he also has someone to help guide him and help hi survive after Earth is destroyed.

Star Wars as a Text

What can you say about Stars War... A lot. Looking at Star Wars as a text instead of a movie is not to hard but not a simple task. One example is love. In Star Wars there is a love triangle between Luke Skywalker, Hon Solo and Princess Leia. There are a few friendships that standout in this movies as well. We have Luke and Hon, two friends that are there for each other. Which is shown at the start when Hon goes out in the horrible weather to find and save Luke. Then you R2D2 and 3CPO, two robots but they still have the friendship quality, the last friendship is Chubaka and Hon. Chubaka is Hon's co pilot and helps with the mechanics on the ship. Another friendship that is shown is R2 and Luke. R2 is there to help navigate and help Luke when ever needed. All these friends show loyalty to one another and they all have each other backs.
There is also a parent and student relationship between Luke and Yoda. Yoda trying to teach a young Jedi and a young boy trying to succeed in a mans world.
The Good vs Evil in this story is the Rebellion and the Empire. The hatred has been going on a long time.

Faith in our Book

In Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy there is one scene that really stands out with having to do with faith. Ford Prefect is in the bar with Arthur Dent and they have just sat down to get a drink. Ford goes to get a drink and tells the bartender that the world will end very soon. Naturally the Bartender does not believe anything Ford had just said. This is were faith comes into play. On one hand you have Ford Prefect who has been on Earth for 14 years and says that the world is coming to an end in a matter of minutes. Ford has faith that this will happen , he has no real proof or evidence, even though he is not from this planet. Then you have the Bartender who just laughs at Fords comment about the end of the world, but he does not have the proof or the evidence that this will not happen. They both have the faith that this disaster will or will not happen, but with no proof of evidence, all they can do if have their faith.

The Star Part 2

After talking about The Star in class I now understand what the story is about. The story has deep concept, either God made the star go into a supernova because he wanted everyone to know his son was born or if the star just blew up than God may not exist at all. My opinion is that everything happens for a reason and that is how God intended it to be, and I think that the star blowing up was going to happen anyways and when it did it showed the way to baby Jesus. There is no way to solve that question, you just have to stick with what you believe in.
I still have one question about the story. Why was the finger pointed at God?
I think that the people in te story may look to God for all their anwsers and when the supernova occurred they felt that is was in Gods hands.
